About the artist

Hi, I'm Tim Andrews. My friends call me "Big Tim."

I'm a Michigan-based artist who has always found peace by spending time outside in nature. My art is a reflection of what I love most: the great outdoors... and beyond.

My art style is what I like to call "Optimistic Surrealism." On planet Earth, sadly, much has already been destroyed or harmed in the pursuit of profit. Humans have rapidly developed this world with a short-sightedness that has led to the destruction of natural habitats, biodiversity loss, pollution of our air and water, and more.

Popular media often pushes imagery of dystopian doom-and-gloom, with post-apocalyptic themes being extremely common, as if to suggest this sort of bleak, barren future is inevitable.

My art challenges this and instead asks: What if there is a better way forward? What if there is a way to preserve this paradise of a planet we're lucky enough to exist upon? I use nature symbolically in my artwork to explore imagery of an Earth, Gaia herself, healing and flourishing. I depict humans as part of nature, their forms comprised of clouds, mountains and sunlight. I try to imagine a world where humans exist in harmony with the earth and with one another; a world where our love and what we share in common greatly outweighs our differences. I blend elements of fantasy, hints of magic, and a sense of surrealism into my work in order to convey my ideas more effectively.

At a quick glance, my art might look like pretty scenes of nature and nothing more. But I promise there is always more than meets the eye. If you look deeper, you might find yourself asking important questions about what it means to be human, and what our responsibility is as stewards of such an amazing planet.

I believe the first step of creating a better world is to first imagine one. To quote Pablo Picasso: "Anything you can imagine is real."
